Design and Performance Analysis of Misalignment Tolerant Charging Coils for Wireless Electric Vehicle Charging Systems

In order to design a high efficiency Wireless Electric Vehicle Charging (WEVC) system, the of different system components needs be optimized, particularly high-coupling, misalignment-tolerant inductive link (IL), comprising primary and secondary charging coils. Different coil geometries can utilized for sides, each with set advantages drawbacks in terms weight, cost, coupling at perfect alignment lateral misalignments. this work, Finite Element Method (FEM)-based systematic approach double-D (DD) coils is presented detail. particular, paper studies effect parameters, namely number turns turn-to-turn spacing, on performance IL ±200 mm misalignment, given space constraints. The proposed verified by an experimental prototype validate accuracy FEM model simulation results. Accordingly, simulations are compare rectangular, DD DDQ results prove importance utilizing additional quadrature side, despite added weight further improve misalignment tolerance design.
